Anvir Bashundhara Group (ABG) has launched a new initiative aimed at developing the country’s sports sector, encouraging the younger generation to engage in sports, and fostering a professional sports culture at the university level.
The logo for the ‘ABG University Cup 2026’ was recently unveiled by ABG Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir.
Under his dynamic leadership, this tournament opens up new possibilities for nurturing the talents of young athletes and further enriching the nation’s sports landscape.
Scheduled to kick off on October 25 at ABG Sports City, this mega event will feature simultaneous cricket and football tournaments played under floodlights. Ten of the country’s leading private universities will participate, with teams competing for titles in both cricket and football.
This tournament is viewed as a significant step in the ongoing effort—spearheaded by ABG Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir—to develop sports infrastructure and create an international-standard sporting environment for the youth. Following the international success of Bashundhara Kings and the establishment of the state-of-the-art ABG Sports City, this event is set to further accelerate the advancement of sports at the university level.
Participating Universities:
The ten universities competing in the tournament are—American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), North South University, BRAC University, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), Sonargaon University, United International University (UIU), Fareast International University, The University of Scholars, and Daffodil International University. Ahead of the tournament, a vibrant ‘Captains’ Meet and Greet’ was held last Saturday night (October 10, 2026) at the residence of the ABG Chairman in the Bashundhara Residential Area.
Attendees included ABG Sports City Director Imrul Hasan, Advisor Bidyut Kumar Bhowmik, T-Sports Executive Director Tasvir-ul-Islam, and Operations Managers Salman Hasan and Ikram Hossain Rafi. Additionally, captains from 20 cricket and football teams, along with students from various universities, participated in the event.
To encourage youth engagement in professional sports, a prize money of Tk 10 lakh has been announced for the champion team and Tk 5 lakh for the runners-up.
This attractive prize has generated immense enthusiasm and excitement among the students. Stakeholders expect that, beyond showcasing their talent in a competitive environment, the tournament will play a pivotal role in grooming future national-level athletes.
The participating captains expressed that having the opportunity to demonstrate their talent and skills in a professional setting was a matter of great pride for them. They voiced optimism that this visionary initiative by ABG Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir would strengthen the sports culture at the university level and make a unique contribution to producing future stars for the nation’s sports arena.
