Acting President Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Acting Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have voted in the country’s 23rd presidential election.




They cast their votes when the presidential election voting began in the session room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday (August 20) afternoon. At that time, BNP presidential candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also exercised his right to vote.
Later, Opposition Leader of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr. Shafiqur Rahman cast his vote.
Two candidates are contesting for the presidential post this time. They are Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) nominated candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Chairman Oli Ahmed, the candidate of the 11-party unity led by Jamaat.
Voting began at 2 pm on Thursday in the session hall of the National Parliament Building. A total of 349 members of parliament are eligible to vote in the presidential election. Voting will continue until 5 pm.
