Japan hands over 12 rescue speedboats to Bangladesh to combat disasters

Diplomatic Desk:

Japan has handed over 12 rescue speedboats to Bangladesh to enhance its capacity to conduct rapid rescue operations during disasters. These speedboats were handed over under the ‘Disaster Risk Management Enhancement Project’ implemented with the funding of Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) loan from JICA.

Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi and Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu were present at the speedboat handover ceremony held on Wednesday (August 18).

At the ceremony, Japan expressed hope that the 12 lifeboats handed over to local governments would be properly maintained and kept ready for use at all times. In addition, importance was also given to the fact that these rescue vehicles can be quickly deployed where human lives are at risk.

Japan said it will continue and deepen cooperation with Bangladesh before, during and after disasters under the Japan-Bangladesh Strategic Partnership. At the same time, Japan expressed its determination to further strengthen mutual cooperation to ensure peace and security in the Bay of Bengal and the wider Indo-Pacific region.
