New prospects for joint cooperation in the information technology, cybersecurity and fintech sectors have been created to further strengthen bilateral trade relations between Bangladesh and Lithuania. These issues were discussed in detail in a meeting between Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir and Non-Resident Ambassador of Lithuania to Bangladesh Diana Mickevičienė with the aim of expanding trade relations between the two countries.
The meeting held at the Ministry of Commerce at the Secretariat on Sunday (16 August 2026) highlighted various aspects of economic potential, investment cooperation and partnership in the technology sector between the two countries. Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Md. Ataur Rahman Khan was present at the meeting.

At the meeting, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said that although the existing trade volume between Bangladesh and Lithuania is currently limited, there is a huge opportunity to increase cooperation between the two countries. In particular, Lithuanian technology companies can expand their activities in the South Asian market by utilizing Bangladesh’s rapidly developing ICT sector, skilled young manpower and the capabilities of freelancers.
He said that Bangladesh is currently a potential destination for investment. Necessary facilities have been ensured in the country for withdrawing investments and repatriating profits. Bangladesh has a stable and investment-friendly environment for international investors.
Lithuanian Ambassador Diana Mikevichien said that Lithuania is one of the leading countries in world-class laser technology, GovTech and FinTech services. Lithuania is interested in exchanging experience and technical cooperation to strengthen Bangladesh’s digital transformation, technology development and cybersecurity.
He further said that if effective partnerships are developed between the public and private sectors of the two countries, new doors will open in the field of technology, innovation and investment.
The meeting emphasized taking quick and effective steps to expand trade between Bangladesh and Lithuania, increasing communication at the business level and undertaking joint ventures in technology-based sectors.
