BSCIC Chairman calls for work on GI products and innovative designs

Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) Chairman Mr. Benazir Ahmed visited BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT).

On Monday (August 10, 2026), BUFT organized a special exhibition of modern fashion clothes inspired by the bed sheets of Kumarkhali, a Geographical Indication (GI) product designed by students. The exhibition highlighted the creativity of students, modernization of traditional products and various initiatives to integrate local culture with fashion design.

During the exhibition visit, the BSCIC Chairman advised the students to work more on GI products and innovative designs. He emphasized on creating modern and international market-friendly products by capturing local tradition and culture.

After the visit, the BSCIC Chairman participated in a view-exchange meeting with BUFT Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Eng. Ayub Nabi Khan. The meeting had fruitful discussions on the future joint implementation of various programs and activities between BSCIC and BUFT.

BSCIC Director (Marketing, Design and Crafts) Khandaker Md. Mushfiqur Rahman, BSCIC Design Center Chief Designer Rahat Uddin and BUFT teachers were present at the meeting.

The exchange of views focused on the promotion and expansion of domestic GI products, modernization of traditional crafts, development of innovative designs by students and further strengthening cooperation between industry and educational institutions.
