Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said that the government has taken the initiative to implement a five-year strategic economic framework to ensure the prosperity of the people along with achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Prime Minister said that through this strategic framework, the country’s national development plan has been integrated with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) declared by the United Nations. As a result, the country’s development plan will be more effective and oriented towards public welfare.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the inauguration of the national conference on ‘Five-Year Strategic Framework for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals’ at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Monday (August 10, 2026) afternoon.
The Prime Minister said that just as Bangladesh has shown success in implementing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), it is also taking appropriate steps and implementing them in implementing the SDGs.
He said that the main theme of the SDGs, ‘No One Left Behind’, has a lot in common with the public policy of the current government. The main goal of the government’s development plan is to ensure the development and prosperity of the quality of life of every person in the country by involving them in the mainstream of development.
Inauguration of SDG Villages in Three Districts
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated three villages under the SDG Village Pilot Program for the first time in the country at the ceremony.
The villages selected under the pilot program are Nafanagar in Bochaganj Upazila of Dinajpur, Pankhali in Dakop Upazila of Khulna, and Mitingachhari in Kaptai Upazila of Rangamati.
The concerned believe that this initiative of the government will not only connect the remote and backward communities to the mainstream of development, but also create opportunities to implement various SDG targets at the local level.
At the national conference, the Prime Minister emphasized on more effectively including the SDG targets in the country’s development plan. At the same time, he also emphasized that the benefits of economic growth should reach people from all walks of life in the country.
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, State Minister of Planning Ministry Jonayed Saki, Secretary of Planning Department S. M. Shakil Akhtar and Advisor to the Prime Minister (Ministerial Rank) Ministry of Finance and Planning Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, along with senior officials of the concerned ministries and departments were present at the event.
