Strong earthquake in Japan kills 13, many trapped in shopping mall

The death toll from a strong earthquake in southern Japan rose to at least 13 on Tuesday (July 28, 2026). Many people are still trapped under the rubble, the country’s government said. About 3,600 soldiers have been deployed to strengthen the rescue operation. At the same time, more than 36,000 families are still without power.

Rescue teams continue to search and rescue operations in the affected areas. Rescue workers are working urgently to rescue those trapped under the rubble. The Japanese government is also monitoring the situation in the affected areas.

Authorities said that the number of casualties is expected to rise further. Relevant agencies are working to get a full picture of the damage caused by the earthquake.
