Bangladesh, Netherlands agree to strengthen cooperation in rule of law, human rights and judicial reforms

Diplomatic Desk:

Netherlands Ambassador Uris van Bommel paid a courtesy call on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, MP, at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday (July 20, 2026).

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the long-standing cooperative partnership between Bangladesh and the Netherlands in the areas of good governance, rule of law and human rights.

The meeting had a detailed exchange of views on ongoing legal and institutional reform activities, including the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the National Human Rights Commission. In addition, ongoing initiatives to make the country’s judiciary more effective and modern were also discussed.

During the meeting, both sides also discussed the importance of the role of commercial courts in further strengthening the investment-friendly environment and facilitating access to justice through expeditious resolution of trade-related disputes.

The meeting was attended by First Secretary (Political) Jawad Ajawi and Political Affairs Advisor Lubain Chowdhury Masum of the Netherlands Embassy.
