A high-level delegation from Japan, including Dr. Tanaka Akihiko, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The delegation was led by Shimada Tomaki, Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, in the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Secretariat on Wednesday (July 1, 2026) afternoon.

During the meeting, various issues to further strengthen the long-standing friendly relations, development cooperation and future partnership between Bangladesh and Japan were discussed. In particular, views were exchanged on the role of JICA in infrastructure development, economic cooperation, investment, human resource development and the implementation of ongoing development projects.
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Employment in the Asia-Pacific Region Dr. Md. Shakirul Islam Khan.
The Japanese delegation was also attended by Japanese Ambassador to Dhaka Saida Shinichi, Director of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hirosei Aiko, Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh Office Takahashi Junko and senior officials concerned.
