Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed received Palestinian Ambassador to Bangladesh Yousef S. Y. Ramadan at his office in the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat today (July 2, 2026).
The meeting brought up various issues of mutual interest, including law and order and security issues between the two countries, facilitating visa issuance for Palestinian students, and other fruitful discussions.
During the meeting, the Minister said that Bangladesh has historically been unwavering in its support for the Palestinian struggle for independence and the establishment of a sovereign state. He said that martyred President Ziaur Rahman played a very strong and unforgettable role in garnering strong public opinion and support for Palestine at the international and diplomatic levels during that time. This principled and moral support of Bangladesh to Palestine will always continue.
During the discussion, the Palestinian Ambassador said that a large number of Palestinian students are pursuing higher education in various government and private educational institutions in Bangladesh. He sought special cooperation in providing on-arrival visas to Palestinian students to facilitate their arrival and study in Bangladesh. The Minister immediately instructed the concerned officials of the Ministry to extend all possible cooperation in this regard. At the same time, he requested the Ambassador to send a formal letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ambassador requested that if any Palestinian citizen or student applies for a visa to Bangladesh through the Bangladesh embassies located in various countries in the Middle East, a copy of the application should be sent to the Palestinian Embassy in Dhaka for proper verification. At that time, the Home Minister said, “As a Muslim brotherly country, we love and trust Palestine. Bangladesh is always ready to provide all kinds of cooperation for the welfare of the citizens of Palestine.’
Regarding the propaganda on social media, the minister said, Bangladesh is a progressive and liberal Muslim country. Any attempt or propaganda to present our country differently on social media to tarnish the image of Bangladesh in the international arena will be strictly suppressed. He made it clear that the criminals involved in such cyber crimes and propaganda will be identified quickly through a fair investigation and legal action and exemplary justice will be ensured.
At the beginning of the meeting, the minister welcomed the Palestinian ambassador. The ambassador congratulated and wished the minister well on assuming his new portfolio.
The meeting was attended by Begum Minara Nazmin, Deputy Secretary of the Political-1 Branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Fuad Hasan Parag, Director (In-Charge) of West Asia Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Nur H. O., First Secretary of the Palestinian Embassy in Dhaka. Nour H. O. Alaydi and others were present.
