Prime Minister Tarique Rahman highlights the importance of accreditation in innovation and sustainable development

Desk Report:

World Accreditation Day 2026 is going to be celebrated tomorrow, June 9. In a message given on the occasion, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said that World Accreditation Day reminds us of the importance of safety, quality and trust in the products and services used in our daily lives.

The Prime Minister said that the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) celebrate World Accreditation Day every year on June 9. This year’s theme “Innovation, Trust and Sustainability: The Power of Accreditation” is very timely and significant.

He said that in today’s world, innovation, trust and sustainable development are interrelated and are one of the foundations of economic progress. In this context, the initiative of the Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) under the Ministry of Industries to celebrate World Accreditation Day is commendable.

In the message, the Prime Minister mentioned that nowadays consumers consider not only the quality of the product, but also the ethics, social responsibility and environmental impact of the production process. Therefore, she emphasized the adoption of innovative and sustainable production methods to maintain a competitive position in the international market.

She said that accreditation is an internationally recognized quality assurance system, which verifies the quality of products and services based on specific criteria. It is not just a certificate, but an effective tool to sustain the country’s industrial sector in global competition.

The Prime Minister said that the international acceptance and credibility of Bangladesh’s products and services are increasing through BAB. So far, the organization has awarded accreditation certificates to 168 government, private and multinational organizations in the country. Currently, this program is being conducted under five sector-based schemes following international standards.

At the end of the message, the Prime Minister expressed the hope that World Accreditation Day 2026 will further strengthen the country’s quality infrastructure and accelerate the progress of innovation and sustainable development.
