After ensuring the safe journey of passengers returning home on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, State Minister for Shipping Md. Rajib Ahsan inspected the Ilisha Ghat in Bhola to supervise the safe journey of passengers returning to work by river.
On Sunday (June 1, 2026), he made a quick visit to the Ilisha Ghat and observed the overall situation. Before that, he visited the Chandpur River Port.
During the inspection, the State Minister gave necessary instructions to the district and upazila administration officials, law enforcement agencies and officials of the concerned organizations to ensure the safety and smooth travel of passengers.
At that time, the State Minister said, we are inspecting the places where a large number of people travel on the river ghats. We have worked to safely reach people to their loved ones on Eid. Our monitoring activities are aimed at ensuring that they can now return to their respective workplaces safely.
He further said that when we go to the field level, some minor errors and deviations come to our attention. We try to resolve them immediately. We are working with utmost sincerity to implement the promise we have made to the people of safe travel.
During the inspection, the State Minister emphasized on stopping the movement of illegal boats and gave instructions to ensure allocation of sufficient boats according to passenger pressure and need.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Chairman Arif Ahmed Mustafa, Bhola District Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shamim Rahman, Police Superintendent Md. Shahidullah Kawsar and senior officials of Bangladesh Police, Naval Police, Coast Guard, BIWTA and BIWTC were present at the time.
