Diplomatic Desk:
Brendan Lynch, Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia at the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), will soon visit Bangladesh to strengthen trade dialogue.
US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen made this information during a meeting with Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir at the Secretariat on Tuesday (April 21, 2026).
The meeting held fruitful discussions on various aspects of strengthening bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and the US. The ambassador said that expanding bilateral trade will be beneficial for both countries.
He also mentioned that parliamentary activities are being conducted smoothly and effectively under the leadership of Prime Minister and Parliament Leader Tarique Rahman, which is a positive example of practicing democracy.
The ambassador said that during the upcoming visit, Brendan Lynch will also express interest in learning about Bangladesh’s new import policy order.
Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said that the Ministry of Commerce and related ministries are working on the formulation of the ‘Import Policy Order 2026’. He expressed hope that the draft will be published for the business community’s opinion very soon.
In the meeting, both sides expressed interest in further expanding trade, investment and policy cooperation.
Secretary (Routine Responsibilities) of the Ministry of Commerce Md. Abdur Rahim Khan and Political Economic Counselor of the US Embassy Eric Gillan were present at the time.
