Advisor to the Prime Minister on Education, Primary Education, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment and Labor Affairs, Mahdi Amin, in a press briefing, outlined the details of the ‘Farmer Card’ distribution program as an important initiative for the development of the country’s agricultural sector.
He said that as per the election manifesto, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will formally inaugurate the program from Tangail on Tuesday (April 14, 2026). In the first phase, farmer cards will be distributed among a total of 20,000 farmers in 11 upazilas of 10 districts. Later, farmer cards will be provided to all farmers of the country in phases. Mahdi Amin further mentioned that not only farmers but also fishermen and farmers will be included under this program.
Mahdi Amin said that arrangements will be made to make fertilizers, seeds, irrigation facilities and agricultural machinery easily available through the farmer card. Besides, this card will also create training opportunities for farmers.
He said, the farmer card will play an effective role in ensuring transparency in the provision of agricultural subsidies and obtaining fair prices for agricultural products. Mahdi Amin expressed hope that this initiative of the government will make a significant contribution to the modernization of the country’s agricultural sector, increasing production and the socio-economic development of farmers.
