Baisakhi Shovajatra begins from DU Fine Arts, Dhaka is full of festivities

Desk Report:

The capital Dhaka is in festive colors today to celebrate the Bengali New Year 1433. One of the main attractions of the year, the Baisakhi Shovajatra, began today, Tuesday (April 14) at around 9 am from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University.

People of different ages and classes and professions participated in this colorful procession. The procession has become a lively cultural gathering with colorful masks, symbolic motifs and traditional decorations. Strict security measures have been taken by the law enforcement agencies.

Earlier, the New Year’s Eve ceremony began at the foot of the Ramna in the capital with sunrise in the morning. The day began with the singing of the song ‘Jago Alok-Lagane’ in a collective voice. At this time, a large number of people gathered there. For many, this event is not just a cultural event, but an emotional occasion to return to the roots of Bengalis.

The New Year’s Eve ceremony ends with the rendition of the national anthem in a collective voice.

Meanwhile, the main attraction of this year’s Baisakhi procession, which started with fine arts, is five special motifs—rooster, violin, pigeon, elephant and horse. According to the organizers, these symbols carry the message of strength, creativity, peace, glory and dynamism, respectively.

A festive atmosphere prevails in the capital, as in the rest of the country, around this New Year’s event, where people from all walks of life are excited about the arrival of the new year.
