A three-member delegation including Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen met with Social Welfare Minister Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain at the Minister’s Office at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka on Monday (March 30, 2026). State Minister Farzana Sharmin and Social Welfare Secretary Dr. Mohammad Abu Yusuf were present during the meeting.
The minister said in the meeting that China is a long-standing friend of Bangladesh in terms of development cooperation, strategic partnership and mutual respect. He said that China is far ahead in terms of technology, especially in smart card technology, China is one of the most successful countries in the world.
The minister highlighted the activities of the Ministry of Social Welfare in implementing the Family Card, one of the election promises of the current government, and said that the card will work to ensure family-centered social security for the education, health, nutritional security, poverty alleviation and women’s empowerment of the vast population of Bangladesh. China’s experience in transforming the family card program into a transparent and technology-based social security system can be a very effective cooperation for Bangladesh.
During the meeting, the ambassador praised the family card program adopted by the Bangladesh government and said that the family card has already gained popularity among the low-income people of Bangladesh. He said that in addition to infrastructural development, China is willing to further strengthen the relationship of friendship and cooperation with Bangladesh in the social security sector. He expressed hope that the area of China-Bangladesh mutual cooperation in the social security sector will be further strengthened.
At the time, both sides emphasized the importance of increasing mutual cooperation to further strengthen the existing bilateral relations.
