Desk Report:
On Saturday (28 March 2026), Deputy Speaker of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kaiser Kamal visited former Speaker Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar’s Dhanmondi residence and exchanged greetings by presenting him with a bouquet of flowers and a crest of honor. He inquired about his health and wished him long life.

At this time, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal told Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar, “I have come to you to seek your prayers and blessings. You were the former Speaker of the Parliament and the Acting President. As a sign of your glorious and visionary leadership, I am presenting you with a small honorarium. Please accept it and thank me. The country and the nation will forever remember your contribution. You have successfully discharged your duties. We are fortunate that we still have you. Please pray for us so that we can successfully discharge our duties.”
Incidentally, the Deputy Speaker said that today, democracy in the Parliament has returned. For that, we are grateful to the Almighty God. In addition, democracy has been restored in this Parliament. I pay tribute to former Prime Minister and national leader Begum Khaleda Zia. I pay tribute to the memory of those who were disappeared and murdered in the anti-fascist movement and those who were martyred in the latest student movement, and I express my condolences to those who were injured.
He further said, we have said before that these three parliamentary elections of 2014, 2018 and 2024 were nothing but fascist regiments that worked for the renewal of power. The Election Commission has worked as a gazette for the renewal of power. They have run the parliament as a rubber stamp. The true democracy is something that the people of Bangladesh have not seen for 17/18 years.
We strongly expect that parliamentary democracy has been reintroduced through the impartial participation of the government party and the opposition party. We want to establish the parliament as an effective parliament. In fact, the people of the country are looking at this parliament as a result of whose sacrifices this parliament was re-established. We want the parliament to be the center of the overall politics of Bangladesh.
As the Deputy Speaker, my responsibility will be to work with everyone. In the case of parliament, the opposition is the soul of the parliament. Therefore, the opposition will express their opinions according to the rules of procedure. Equally effective measures will be taken for everyone in the parliament, God willing.
His son Barrister Muhammad Nowfel Zamir, former private secretary Md. Khalequzzaman Sabuj, private secretary to the Deputy Speaker Md. Saiful Islam, concerned officials and employees of the National Parliament Secretariat, and media personnel from various electronic and print media were present during the meeting.
