On the occasion of the great independence and National Day, President Md. Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid deep tribute to the memory of the brave martyrs who sacrificed themselves in the Liberation War.

They paid tribute to the best sons of the nation by laying wreaths at the National Memorial early on Thursday (March 26, 2026). After laying the wreaths, the President and the Prime Minister stood in silence for a while to honor the memory of the martyrs.

At this time, a smart contingent of the Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force gave the national salute and the mournful tune of the bugle sounded. The Chief Justice, members of the Cabinet, heads of the three services, war-wounded brave freedom fighters, members of the martyrs’ families, diplomats and political leaders, and high-ranking military and civilian officials were present at the event.
Later, as the party chief, BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman laid wreaths at the memorial along with senior party leaders. At the same time, he also paid tribute on behalf of the cabinet. At this time, prayers and supplications were offered for the peace of the souls of the martyrs of the great liberation war and the welfare of the country and the nation.
Then the Prime Minister exchanged greetings with the war-wounded freedom fighters, martyr family members and invited guests present and signed the memorial’s visit book.
On the occasion of Independence Day, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman laid wreaths and recited Fateha at the mausoleum of the great freedom fighter and former President Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam and the grave of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

After visiting the mausoleum located in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital, he first paid tribute as a state guest and later with cabinet members. Then, as the BNP Chairman, he paid tribute again along with party leaders and workers.
Finally, the Prime Minister participated in a special prayer for the eternal peace of the departed souls of martyred President Ziaur Rahman, Begum Khaleda Zia, and all the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the great liberation war.
