Dinajpur’s Eid market is packed at the end of Ramadan

Dinajpur Correspondent:

With the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid shopping is in full swing in the northern border town of Dinajpur. From the city’s shopping malls to the sidewalks, shoppers are now flocking everywhere. However, this year’s picture is a bit different compared to other years. Especially those who could not go to neighboring countries to shop due to visa complications are now flocking to the local market.

A visit to the traditional Maldah Patti, Jail Road and Bahadur Bazar areas of Dinajpur city showed that shopping is going on from morning till late at night. There is a competition to buy women’s sarees and three-pieces in the big showrooms of Maldah Patti. Sellers said that this time Pakistani dresses are at the top of the list of preferences of young women. There is no place to store sesame seeds in the garment shops in the Jail Road area either, there is a high demand for children’s spring clothes there.

However, despite this joy of shopping, the prices of goods have taken on a sad tone. Many buyers who came to the market have complained that the prices of each garment are increasing by 500 to 1000 taka compared to last year. A buyer expressed his anger and said that the price of the garment, which was earlier 1200 taka, is now being sold for 2500 taka. It is very difficult for the middle and lower class people to meet their Eid budget this year.

On the other hand, the sellers say otherwise. They claim that the prices are not too high considering the quality of the garment and the current market situation. Although the sales were a little low at the beginning of Ramadan, the traders have expressed satisfaction with the increase in the number of buyers from the middle. The long-standing custom of going across the border to shop has been interrupted this time due to the visa issue. However, the general public is forgetting about the regrets and shopping in the local market as various types of domestic and foreign garments are being displayed in the shopping malls of Dinajpur.
