It is not possible to build a country without equal participation of women and men: Tarique Rahman

Staff Correspondent:

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman said that after August 5, a political party has been systematically belittling the mothers and sisters of the country and nurturing the mentality of keeping them imprisoned in their homes. He said that to build the country, women and men have to work shoulder to shoulder—there is no alternative.

He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at a BNP election rally held at Jessore Upashahar Degree College Ground on Monday (February 2).

Tarique Rahman alleged that a party leader had given a speech in an interview with a foreign media outlet about how women would be treated if they came to power. However, the same leader had made very objectionable comments about working women. He said that a party that does not know how to respect women will not be able to contribute anything to the welfare of the people if they are given the responsibility of running the state.

He also said that a party is spreading confusion by spreading blatant lies like ‘account hack’ in front of the people.

Highlighting BNP’s contribution to women’s education, Tarique Rahman said that former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia paved the way for women’s education by making education free for girls. He promised that if BNP forms a government in the future, ‘family cards’ will be delivered to the mothers and sisters of the country.

Regarding the election, the BNP chairman said that just as people’s voting rights were taken away through dummy elections and night voting during the previous government’s tenure, a party is once again trying to obstruct the election. He urged the people to resist if anyone wants to take any immoral advantage in the name of vote counting.

Regarding religious harmony, Tarique Rahman said that if BNP forms a government, state honors will be given to mosque imams and muezzins, including priests of other religions. He said that BNP wants to build the country by including people of all religions – Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and Christians.

Referring to the development plan, he said that if BNP comes to power, initiatives will be taken to export flowers from the Jessore region abroad and arrangements will be made to restart the sugar industries in the area.
