The funeral prayers of 6 peacekeepers who were martyred in the barbaric terrorist drone attack on a base of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Abyei area of Sudan on December 13, 2025, were held at the Central Mosque in Dhaka Cantonment today, Sunday (December 21, 2025).
The funeral prayers were attended by Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman, Navy Chief Admiral M. Nazmul Hassan, Air Chief Marshal Hassan Mahmud Khan, military and civilian officers of various ranks, members of other ranks, and media persons.

Before the funeral, the biographies of the martyrs were read out and their close relatives spoke.
Then, on behalf of the UN Secretary-General, UNICEF Chief Community Liaison Officer Mr. Mr. Boris-Ephrem Tchoumavi delivered the speech. After the funeral prayers, they were accorded due state honors.

At this time, his Military Secretary, among others, laid a wreath on behalf of the Principal Advisor to pay tribute to the martyrs.
Then, the Chief Community Liaison Officer of UNICEF handed over the UN flag to the next of kin of the martyrs on behalf of the UN Secretary-General.

After the funeral, separate condolence messages signed by the Principal Advisor were handed over to the families of the martyrs.
The Bangladesh Government and senior UN officials have already strongly condemned this heinous drone attack. The Bangladesh Army has sent a formal protest letter to the UN Headquarters expressing deep concern and has called for the immediate implementation of drone prevention measures in all mission areas including UNICEF.
In the said terrorist drone attack, 6 peacekeepers were martyred and 9 peacekeepers were injured, 8 of whom are undergoing treatment at the Aga Khan University Hospital (Level-3 Hospital) in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. All are currently out of danger.
