Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) has protested against misleading information being spread on social media regarding an official letter regarding the Dhaka University Alumni Association UK (DUAAUK) reunion program held in the UK.
In a statement, BIDA said that recently (October 27, 2025), an expatriate person failed to understand the language and features of an official letter from the Office of the Chief Advisor and spread misleading interpretations. Unfortunately, some media outlets have quoted the misleading statement without verification, which is being considered as an attempt to tarnish the image of a senior government official.
BIDA said that as per the letter no. 03.08.2690.068.25.001.25-503 (dated: 19 October 2025) of the Office of the Chief Advisor, Mr. Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud Bin Harun was officially approved to participate in the reunion program organized by DUAAUK, the alumni association of Dhaka University. He is a former student of Dhaka University and was previously an expatriate in the UK.
BIDA further said that the purpose of this visit was to strengthen relations with the expatriate alumni network and encourage expatriate investors to invest in Bangladesh. During the visit, he also held meetings with expatriate investors.
BIDA clearly stated that the government has no financial responsibility for this visit. DUAAUK is bearing the entire cost of the visit. The issue of “payment of salaries and allowances in local currency” in the government order is only a regular administrative process, with no additional government expenditure involved.
According to the letter, the duration of the visit has been fixed at a maximum of three days (including weekly holidays). During this time, the official will remain under government duty and subject to applicable regulations.
BIDA stressed, “The said visit was carried out in full accordance with government rules and procedures, and is not an opaque or irregular initiative.”
The organization called on the public and the media to refrain from spreading misleading, incomplete or biased information and to protect the transparency and dignity of government processes.
