As part of the Sri Lanka MICE Expo 2025 familiarization tour, a group of foreign tour operators, investors, tourism and media representatives visited the historic Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy, Sri Lanka today (24 September 2025).
This temple is a very sacred place for Buddhists, where a sacred tooth relic of Gautama Buddha is enshrined. According to history, this relic was brought to Sri Lanka from the Kalinga kingdom of India in the 4th century and was enshrined in Anuradhapura by King Sri Megabanna. Later, after being moved to different parts of Sri Lanka at various times, King Vimaladharmasuriya I established this temple in Kandy in 1595.
The Dalada Maligawa Temple is located as part of the Kandy Palace Complex and was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988.
The temple is famous for its Buddhist religious rituals and pujas, which are held daily in the morning, afternoon and evening.
During the visit, the guests toured various parts of the temple and received detailed information from the organizers about its historical and religious significance. It is presented to the international guests as an important example of Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage and religious significance.
