On Monday (September 8), at 11 am, at the Bashundhara office of the capital, Ms. Huma Khan, Human Rights Adviser of the UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call and exchanged views with the respected Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. She was accompanied by Barrister Tazrian Akram Khan, Junior Human Rights Adviser.
At the beginning of the meeting, Ms. Huma Khan inquired about Dr. Shafiqur Rahman’s health and wished him a full recovery. Later, they exchanged views in a cordial atmosphere. Ms. Huma Khan expressed gratitude for Dr. Shafiqur Rahman’s speech at the ‘July Commemoration Meeting’ organized by the UN Human Rights Organization at the Intercontinental Hotel in the capital on July 29.
During the meeting, there was an open discussion on the overall context including the human rights situation prevailing in Bangladesh, the trials of disappearances and murders. Miss Huma Khan also wanted to know about the various aspects of the reform proposal presented by Jamaat-e-Islami and Dr. Shafiqur Rahman gave a detailed explanation.
It is worth mentioning that at this time, the Ameer-e-Jamaat handed over the 12-volume English edition of the book published by Jamaat-e-Islami on ‘July Martyrs’ to the UN officials.
Present at the meeting were Central Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Dr. Syed Abdullah Md. Taher, Central Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair and Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Qasem Arman, among others.
