310 Bangladeshis return from Libya

310 Bangladeshis who wanted to return home from Libya were brought back to Bangladesh on a chartered flight on Friday (December 05, 2025) at 10 am through the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, in cooperation with the Libyan government and the International Organization for Migration.

Most of the repatriated Bangladeshis are known to have entered Libya with the instigation and cooperation of human traffickers with the aim of illegally going to Europe by sea. Many of them are alleged to have been abducted and tortured in Libya at different times. Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the concerned ministries and the International Organization for Migration, welcomed the repatriated Bangladeshi citizens at the airport. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested them to share their harrowing experience with everyone possible to increase public awareness. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) provides travel expenses, some food and first aid to each repatriated person.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and the International Organization for Migration are working together to ensure the safe repatriation of Bangladeshi citizens detained in various detention centers in Libya.
