175 Bangladeshis return from Libya

With the cooperation of the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and the International Organization for Migration, 175 irregular Bangladeshi citizens who voluntarily wanted to repatriate from Benghazi, Libya, were brought back to Bangladesh on a Buraq Air flight at 06:15 am today, Thursday (August 21, 2025). They were staying in Libya irregularly.

Most of the repatriated Bangladeshis entered Libya with the instigation and cooperation of human traffickers with the aim of illegally traveling to Europe by sea. Many of them were abducted and tortured in Libya at different times. Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the concerned ministries and the International Organization for Migration, welcomed the repatriated Bangladeshi citizens at the airport. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested them to share their harrowing experience with everyone to increase public awareness. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) provides travel expenses, some food, first aid and temporary accommodation to each repatriated person.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and the International Organization for Migration are working together to ensure the safe repatriation of Bangladeshi citizens detained in various detention centers in Libya.
