174 Bangladeshis Return from Libya

With the assistance of the Government of Libya and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and under the coordination of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Libya, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, a total of 174 irregular Bangladeshi nationals voluntarily returned home from Libya on Tuesday (28 October 2025). They arrived in Dhaka at 2:30 p.m. on a chartered flight operated by Burak Air.

According to official sources, most of the returnees had entered Libya irregularly through human traffickers with the intention of traveling to Europe via the Mediterranean Sea. Many of them reportedly suffered abduction and torture at different times while in Libya.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relevant government agencies, and the International Organization for Migration received the returnees at the airport. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs encouraged the returnees to share their distressing experiences with others to raise public awareness about the dangers of irregular migration.

Each returnee received travel allowances, food items, and basic medical assistance provided by the IOM.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Bangladesh in Libya, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and the International Organization for Migration are continuing their joint efforts to ensure the safe repatriation of Bangladeshi nationals detained in various detention centers across Libya.
