Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that we will keep our promise to the people. The government is responsible to the people – the main goal is to serve the people. With the cooperation of everyone, the existing problems will be eliminated and local government elections will be held as soon as possible.
The minister said these things in response to questions from journalists on his first working day in his office at the ministry on Wednesday (February 18, 2026). State Minister Mir Shahe Alam and Secretary of the ministry Rezaul Maksud Zahedi and senior officials were present at the time.
Minister Mirza Fakhrul said that he will work in running the government according to the expectations of the people of Bangladesh and the instructions given by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The government will work on all the problems that the people had. The government will take effective initiatives on important issues including farmers’ problems, hardworking people’s problems, working women’s problems, unemployment and other issues.
In response to another question, the minister said, the law and order situation and economy of the country are not as bad as they are being thought. Besides, there will be no mob culture either—the law and order forces are being able to create a place of trust for them.
Above all, we will properly fulfill the responsibility entrusted to us by the Prime Minister. We need everyone’s cooperation, regardless of party affiliation, to rise above everything. People’s participation is essential for the development of the country.
