We want to work to eliminate poverty and change the fate of the people: Local Government Minister

Desk Report:

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed his determination to work collectively to eliminate poverty, improve the quality of life of the people of the country and change their fate.

He expressed this optimism in his speech as the chief guest at the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Carnival-2026 organized at the Pepper Tree BD Event Venue on Madani Avenue in the capital on Friday (April 17, 2026).

The minister said that the role of JCI Bangladesh in developing leadership and social service activities among the youth is very commendable. He called on the organization to further expand its activities and contribute to the development of the country.

He also mentioned that Bangladesh has achieved significant progress in the last 56 years since independence. Ensuring food security and development in the agricultural sector are important aspects of this success.

Addressing the youth, the minister said, “We must come forward to build the country with new dreams and enthusiasm. The active participation of the youth is essential for the sustainable development of the country and poverty alleviation.” It is worth noting that ‘JCI Bangladesh’ is a non-profit global platform for youth, which works to develop leadership, promote social responsibility and bring about positive change.
