UN High Commissioner for Human Rights called on Foreign Adviser

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Mr. Volker Türk called on Hon’ble Foreign Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain on Wednesday (30 October, 2024) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, the High Commissioner commended the reform initiatives undertaken by the Interim Government and expected to extend all kind of support to the Government in its endeavours.

Bangladesh has embarked on a remarkable journey in an extraordinary moment of her history, said the High Commissioner. He thanked the Government for cooperating with the independent UN Fact Finding Mission towards the incidents of human rights violation during the recent student-led mass uprising.

Hon’ble Foreign Adviser expressed his gratitude to the High Commissioner for his persistent support to the Government since it has assumed office. He said that the Interim Government is committed to fulfill the aspiration of the young generation of the country which has been manifestly expressed in the recent uprising. He echoed with the High Commissioner regarding the need for increased engagment between the Government and the OHCHR for carrying out the reform initiatives and hoped that both sides would discuss the modalities for further engagement.
