There is no legal obstacle to the election of Dr. M A Quayum in Dhaka-11 constituency, the High Court dismissed the writ filed by Nahid Islam

Staff Correspondent:

The High Court has directly dismissed the writ filed challenging the validity of the candidacy of BNP nominated candidate Dr. M A Quayum in Dhaka-11 constituency on charges of dual citizenship and concealment of information. As a result, the concerned lawyers said that there is no more legal obstacle to the election of Dr. M A Quayum in Dhaka-11 parliamentary constituency.

On Tuesday (February 3), a High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Md. Asif Hasan gave this order.

Lawyer Mohammad Hossain Lipu and Advocate Zahirul Islam Musa heard the writ in the court. On the other hand, Dr. Advocate Ahsanul Karim, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, Advocate Mahbubur Rahman Khan and Barrister Kazi Akter Hossain were present on behalf of MA Qayyum.

Earlier on Monday (February 2), Nahid Islam, a candidate of the 11-party alliance and convener of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), filed this writ in the High Court. The writ sought suspension of the candidacy of BNP-nominated candidate Dr. MA Qayyum in Dhaka-11 constituency, alleging dual citizenship and concealment of necessary information.

The writ made the concerned authorities including the Chief Election Commissioner as respondents.

As a result of the High Court order, there is no longer any legal obstacle to Dr. MA Qayyum’s participation in the upcoming elections in Dhaka-11 constituency, said the concerned lawyers.
