Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that the recent budget prepared after the hard work of the last one and a half to two months has been appreciated and praised by people from all walks of life in the country. Although the budget preparation is good, its real significance depends on its successful implementation. The minister expressed hope that this budget will be successfully implemented with the joint efforts of everyone in the Finance Department.
The Finance Minister said these things while addressing the first meeting with the officials of the Finance Department in the meeting room of the Ministry of Finance on Thursday (July 23, 2026). The meeting was presided over by Finance Department Secretary Dr. Md. Khairuzzaman Majumder.
The Finance Minister said that the negative perception that the common people have about bureaucracy needs to be changed. In the last four months, he felt that it is possible to overcome any obstacle if everyone works together. He advised to work through innovative thinking in tune with the changing world by breaking away from the old system or trend.
Amir Khasru said that meetings should not be one-sided but should give officials the opportunity to express their opinions freely and spontaneously. He called for open discussion, mutual cooperation and working in an innovative way (‘out of the box’) by going beyond traditional thinking. The work environment should be considered like a family. He emphasized on presenting work opportunities, new ideas and solutions directly rather than just complaining. He said that it would be easier to make the right decisions if accurate and objective feedback was received from the sub-departments. The Finance Minister concluded his speech by calling on everyone to work responsibly from their respective places in the interest of the country, referring to the Finance Department as the center of the country’s economic driving force.
After the meeting held at the Secretariat on the Integrated Development Plan of Cox’s Bazar, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said with reporters that the government has taken the initiative to formulate an integrated master plan to develop Cox’s Bazar as an international and regional tourism center. At the same time, initiatives have been taken to reconsider the long-standing restrictions of 50 meters and 500 meters in development activities in coastal areas. Where tourism is developed, hotels, motels, resorts and entertainment centers should be built. Development opportunities should be created while ensuring environmental protection. The government has big plans for Cox’s Bazar. Work is already underway to build an international airport there, rail connectivity has been launched and improved road connectivity is being developed from Chittagong. Cox’s Bazar will be transformed into a modern digital tourism city by coordinating with these infrastructures.
The Finance Minister said that Cox’s Bazar will make an important contribution as one of the growth hubs in the goal of transforming Bangladesh into a trillion-dollar economy by 2034. Through the development of tourism, trade and the service sector, Cox’s Bazar’s role in the national economy will be further strengthened.
