Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin said, the main goal of our economy should be to create a surplus from expenditure.
He said, we are a country with a $400 billion economy. Despite this, why can’t we have a surplus? If we spend excessively without considering the adequacy of resources, then the surplus will not come. Everyone has to work sincerely to build our future strong economy by creating a surplus from expenditure with our own capabilities.

He said this in his speech as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the ‘Road to Made in Bangladesh and Agro Machinery Fair 2025’ at Edison Prime Bhaban in Tejgaon Industrial Area of the capital on Sunday (September 21, 2025) afternoon.
The Trade Adviser said, we have to move forward based on our own capabilities. It is not possible to go far with policy support. In our country, no other sector except the garment sector has been able to do anything with policy support.
He also said, the characteristics of our industry before independence are no longer there. Previously, industries from different countries of the world were developed here. Now they are not there. We could not use that opportunity after independence.
