The current government is taking a very strict stance in curbing crime: State Minister for the Hill Tracts

Desk Report:

The current government is taking a very strict stance in curbing crime by following the zero tolerance policy, said State Minister for the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin. He made it clear that no one involved in crime will be spared; even if he is a leader or worker of his own party, he will be brought under the law.

The State Minister said these things in response to questions from journalists after the District Law and Order Committee meeting at the Chittagong Circuit House on Sunday (March 8, 2026). The meeting was presided over by Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah.

The State Minister said that the government is working on a zero tolerance policy to prevent extortion and encroachment. Our main goal is to bring criminals under the law rather than party affiliation to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property. The State Minister said that as per the Prime Minister’s instructions, we have instructed the administration to take immediate legal action against any kind of crime.

Regarding the current situation in Chittagong, Mir Helal said that currently many things including commodity prices are under control, which is a big success of the administration and the government. The government is working to keep public life and market conditions normal during the holy Eid-ul-Fitr and post-Eid period. He said that all kinds of initiatives will continue to make Chittagong a safe city.

Finally, the State Minister expressed his strong conviction and said that the government is working relentlessly to build a prosperous and peaceful nation. This zero tolerance policy against crime will continue to make Chittagong a safe city.

It is worth noting that Abu Sufian, MP of Chittagong-9 constituency, Engineer Belayet Hossain, former joint convener of Chittagong North District BNP, and senior officials of the administration were present at the law and order meeting.
