After a long competition, training and selection process involving over 4,000 students from all over the country, five students have been selected to represent Bangladesh at the International Olympiad on Climate Change and Environmental Issues (IOCE) 2026. This international Olympiad will be held in Sirius, Russia.
The team was selected through the Bangladesh Olympiad on Climate Change and Environmental Issues (BOCE) 2026. The initiative was organized by Sustainability and Life Sciences Network (SLSN) and Zero Competitions.
On July 17, 2026, the activities of BOCE 2026 began with the online preliminary phase with the participation of students from all over the country. In the next phase, regional phases and an online regional phase were held in Dhaka, Rajshahi and Sylhet. About 1,000 students participated in the regional level. From there, the best 300 students got the opportunity to participate in the national phase held at the historic Curzon Hall of Dhaka University on August 21.




The chief guest at the national phase was Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) of Dhaka University. The program was attended by prominent teachers and officials from various departments of Dhaka University, as well as Alexandra Khlevnoy, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka, and Md. Delwar Hossain, Senior Coordinator of the Education Project. Dr. Kazi Matinuddin Ahmed, Professor of the Department of Geology, Dhaka University, served as the academic advisor.
After the national phase, a special training camp was organized for the 40 selected national winners. In this training, students were given intensive training in six important subjects – ecology, biodiversity, environmental chemistry, climate science, earth systems and disaster management.
The Bangladesh international team was finalized through the final team selection test held at the Russian House in Dhaka on August 27. This test assesses students’ scientific knowledge, analytical skills, data analysis ability, and problem-solving skills.
The five students selected to represent Bangladesh in the International Olympiad on Climate Change and Environment 2026 are:
Abu Mahzurah Ayman, Fabiha Nur Zina, Ismah Arush, SM Anfal Habib, and Kamrun Nahar Megha.
Tasin Mohammad and Ahnaf Tahmiduddin will be the team leaders of the Bangladesh delegation. Ferdous Ahmed will also be with the delegation as an observer.
National teams from different countries around the world will participate in the International Olympiad on Climate Change and Environment (IOCE) 2026. This international competition to be held in Syros, Russia, will feature various theoretical, practical, and project-based competitions related to climate science, environmental science, and sustainable development.
The goal of BOCE is not just to select a national team for an international competition; Rather, it aims to build a strong national platform to increase climate and environmental knowledge among the youth of Bangladesh, develop scientific thinking and problem-solving skills, and create future researchers, innovators, and environmental leaders.
