Switzerland’s long-standing commitment to protecting women’s rights in Bangladesh: Swiss Ambassador Reto Rengli

Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh Reto Rengli has reiterated Switzerland’s strong commitment to preventing violence against women in Bangladesh. He spoke as the Guest of Honour at a dialogue organized on the occasion of the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence”, an international campaign to raise awareness about violence against women.

Ambassador Rengli said that one in three women worldwide is a victim of physical or sexual violence—and this rate is even more alarming in Bangladesh. He emphasized, “No religion, community or country is exempt from this problem. Therefore, preventing violence is our collective responsibility.”

He praised the crucial role of women in the historic events of the past year and expressed hope that the ongoing democratic transformation will ensure women’s full and equal participation—in the state, society and at all levels.

The event was organized by Switzerland’s partner organization “Foundation for Humanity”—which has been working for a long time for human rights, justice and the protection of women in the country.
