SL MICE Expo 2026 to be held in Sri Lanka from October 5–9, featuring 120 guests from 27 countries

Diplomatic Desk:

The SL MICE Expo 2026 is set to take place in Colombo from October 5 to 9, aiming to showcase Sri Lanka’s potential as a destination for international business events. Organized by the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB), this sixth edition of the international event will host over 120 international hosted buyers and media representatives from 27 countries.

The SLCB—the national body responsible for developing and promoting Sri Lanka’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry in the global market—stated that this expo is being organized as part of the 2026 marketing plan. The event aims to strengthen Sri Lanka’s position as a hub for international business events while fostering connections between the local MICE sector and global buyers and stakeholders.

Launched in 2021 as a virtual initiative, the SL MICE Expo has gradually evolved into a significant international platform. It facilitates engagement between Sri Lanka’s MICE industry and international buyers, media, and relevant stakeholders, while also creating opportunities for business partnerships, market expansion, and international collaboration.

Sri Lanka boasts a diverse array of attractions, including beaches, ancient cities, wildlife sanctuaries, mountainous tea plantations, and a rich cultural heritage. These attractions can be incorporated into pre- and post-event tours alongside MICE programs. The blend of business infrastructure with natural beauty, heritage, and varied tourism experiences makes the country an appealing destination for international MICE tourists.

Hon. (Prof.) Ruwan Ranasinghe, M.P., Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, stated that the government views the MICE sector as a key driver of tourism growth. He also noted that the SL MICE Expo 2026 would play a pivotal role in showcasing Sri Lanka’s MICE capabilities to international buyers and the media.

Dheera Hettiarachchi, Chairman of the SLCB, stated that the participation of over 120 hosted buyers and media representatives from 27 countries would create significant opportunities for building international business connections and partnerships within Sri Lanka’s MICE industry.

The SL MICE Expo 2026 program will feature a business forum discussing current trends and prospects in the MICE industry, an opening plenary session, B2B meetings, networking events, destination experiences, and familiarization tours.

B2B meetings will facilitate direct interaction between international hosted buyers and Sri Lankan MICE suppliers and related organizations. Organizers anticipate that this will generate business leads, foster partnerships, and create opportunities for hosting future international events.

Organized by the SLCB, this expo is expected to showcase Sri Lanka’s MICE capabilities to the global market while helping to increase the number of international conferences, business events, and incentive travel programs in the country. Consequently, this could create economic opportunities for various tourism sector entities and local communities.

Through the SL MICE Expo 2026, the SLCB aims to position Sri Lanka as a world-class MICE destination by highlighting a combination of value, connectivity, hospitality, diverse experiences, and professional expertise in hosting international events.
