Singapore’s Non-Resident High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mr. Derek Loh paid a courtesy call on Opposition Leader of the National Assembly and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman this morning.
The meeting was held at 9:30 am today, Monday (May 18, 2026) at the capital’s Bashundhara office. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Singapore High Commission’s Charge d’Affaires Mr. Michael Lee and Country Director for South Asia Mr. Tai Dae Arn.
The meeting was reportedly held in a very cordial and cordial atmosphere. The discussion covered various issues including the current political and economic situation of Bangladesh, the progress of industry and trade, the democratic process after the national elections, the referendum, and state reforms through the implementation of the July Charter.
At this time, the High Commissioner Mr. Derek Loh praised the role of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in the democratic progress and economic development of Bangladesh. He expressed hope that the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Singapore will be further strengthened, cooperation will expand and new possibilities will be created in the future.
At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to increase mutual cooperation, continue economic development and democratic progress. At this time, the High Commissioner invited the Leader of the Opposition to visit Singapore.
Barrister Mir Ahmed Bin Kasem Arman, MP, Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Leader of the Opposition, was also present at the meeting.
