With the theme of ‘Tea builds friendship, language connects hearts’, Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology celebrated International Tea Day. A colorful event was organized at the university’s auditorium in Uttara, Dhaka, on Thursday to mark the day.




Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh Li Shaopong was present as the chief guest at the event. Vice Presidents of the Chinese Enterprises Association and Overseas Chinese Association Shiye Khangjia and Huang Wenyan also participated in the event.




Chairman of Shanto-Mariam Foundation and Sundarban Courier Service Dr. Md. Ahsanul Kabir, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, renowned painter Professor Mostafizul Haque, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shah-e-Alam, Registrar Dr. Par Mashiur Rahman, Chinese Director of Shanto-Mariam Hongho Confucius Classroom Associate Professor Wang Liqiong and Bangladeshi Director Professor Mohiuddin Taher, along with senior Chinese diplomats posted in Bangladesh and representatives of the Chinese community in Bangladesh.
The speakers said that the importance of tea for mental and physical well-being is immense. Just as language builds a bridge between hearts and cultures, tea has long been considered a symbol of friendship and harmony. Through the aroma of tea and the beauty of language, mutual communication and bonds between people of different countries are further strengthened.
They expressed hope that this event will play an effective role in further strengthening mutual understanding, friendship and brotherly relations between Bangladesh and China.
The ‘International Tea Day: China-Bangladesh Tea Culture Exchange Program’ organized under the patronage of the Chinese Embassy was jointly implemented by Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology and Shanto-Mariam Hongho Confucius Classroom. The event was co-organized by the two Confucius Institutes of Dhaka University and North South University.
In addition to the exhibition of various types of tea from China and Bangladesh, the event also featured creative works by SMUCT students from the departments of fashion design, architecture, graphic design, multimedia and painting.
Celebrated every year on May 21, International Tea Day is considered an important occasion to highlight the tea culture of different countries around the world, especially Bangladesh and China, as well as to enhance cultural exchange and mutual harmony.
