Secretary General of BIMSTEC Secretariat gives special message in ‘Special January, 2026 Edition’ of “Business in Bangladesh Newsletter” on the occasion of English New Year

On behalf of BIMSTEC Secretariat, and on my own behalf, I extend my warmest New Year 2026 greetings to readers of Business in Bangladesh. I wish the Government and People of Bangladesh success in all endeavours in 2026 aimed at sustainable and resilient development of Bangladesh.

As an intergovernmental organization, aimed at fostering economical and technical cooperation among member States, BIMSTEC since its inception in June 1997, has evolved into a dynamic regional organisation. It has succeeded in creating the requisite institutional framework to forge regional cooperation in 18 sectors on its vast Agenda. It has devised sectoral Plans of Action; established Centres of Excellence; concluded Conventions, Agreements, MoUs and Guidelines. Guided by recommendations of the Eminent Persons Group, BIMSTEC is undergoing reforms and revitalisation to become an efficient and effective regional Organization.

It’s committed to expand regional cooperation guided by its Charter and BIMSTEC Bangkok Vision 2030, which was adopted at 6th BIMSTEC Summit held in Bangkok, Thailand, in April 2025.

BIMSTEC continues to enjoy abiding political support of the Leadership of all the member States, including Bangladesh. It has remained focused and shall continue to focus on forging tangible cooperation in areas which are on its Agenda. Under the leadership of Bangladesh, the current Chair of BIMSTEC, BIMSTEC is poised to realise the goal of building a secure, resilient, developed and prosperous Bay of Bengal region.

Let me reaffirm BIMSTEC Secretariat’s commitment to work with the member States in forging regional cooperation aimed at promoting regional security and development in Bay of Bengal region. I wish the Government and people of the BIMSTEC member States, success in New Year in 2026 in all their endeavours to realise peace, security, development and prosperity.
