SAAB Elects New Executive Committee at the Russian House in Dhaka

Diplomatic Desk:

The 14th Executive Committee Election of the Soviet and Russian Alumni Association of Bangladesh (SAAB) was held successfully on Saturday (18 July, 2026) at the Russian House in Dhaka, with the enthusiastic participation of nearly 400 voting members from across the country.

Founded on 7 August 1982, the Soviet and Russian Alumni Association of Bangladesh (SAAB) is one of the country’s leading alumni organizations, representing more than 6,000 graduates of Soviet and Russian higher educational institutions. Over the past four decades, its members have made significant contributions to Bangladesh in diverse fields including education, science, engineering, medicine, public administration, research, business, and culture.

The election resulted in the formation of a new 22-member Executive Committee, which will guide the Association’s activities over the coming term. The newly elected committee is expected to continue SAAB’s longstanding efforts to strengthen educational, cultural, scientific, and humanitarian ties between Bangladesh and the Russian Federation.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Alexandra Khlevnoy, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka, congratulated the newly elected Executive Committee and conveyed her best wishes for a successful tenure. She expressed confidence that SAAB would continue to serve as an important bridge between the peoples of Bangladesh and Russia by promoting academic cooperation, cultural exchange, and people-to-people relations.

The Russian House in Dhaka reaffirmed its continued support for SAAB and its distinguished alumni network. It also expressed its commitment to expanding educational opportunities for Bangladeshi students through Russian higher education and government scholarship programmes, while encouraging future graduates to contribute to the sustainable development and prosperity of Bangladesh.
