Russian House in Dhaka Celebrates 100 Years of Russian Public Diplomacy with Grand Cultural Concert

A grand cultural concert was held in Dhaka to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Russian public diplomacy and Bangladesh’s Victory Day. Organized by the Russian House in Dhaka, the event took place on Friday (5 December 2025) at the open-air venue “Rabindra Sarobar,” drawing a crowd of more than 13,000 spectators. The program highlighted the depth of cultural ties and historical cooperation between the two countries.

Leading cultural groups of Bangladesh performed at the event, including artists from the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, popular band Shonar Bangla Circus, and the musical group Akash & Co. They presented a blend of traditional and contemporary Bengali and Russian music, captivating the audience with their vibrant performances. Speakers at the event recalled the crucial diplomatic and strategic support extended by the Soviet Union during Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971—ranging from vetoes at the United Nations to securing international recognition for the newly independent nation.

The discussion also emphasized ongoing cooperation that continues to strengthen bilateral relations. More than 6,000 Bangladeshi professionals, educated at Soviet and Russian universities, are currently serving in key sectors such as energy, science, administration, and the economy. Additionally, Russian experts residing in Bangladesh are acting as mentors for the younger generation, introducing them to Russian education, culture, and emerging opportunities in modern technology sectors.

The program paid special tribute to the brave martyrs of 1971 whose sacrifices laid the foundation of Bangladesh’s independence. Speakers also highlighted the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant—being constructed with assistance from Russia’s Rosatom State Corporation—as a symbol of the two countries’ modern strategic partnership. With a capacity of 2,400 MW, the power plant is expected to ensure stable energy supply for Bangladesh’s growing economy while contributing to long-term technology transfer and human resource development.
