Professor Dr. Ayub Islam joins UGC as full-time member

Professor Dr. Mohammad Ayub Islam of the Department of Accounting of Chittagong University has joined the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) as a new full-time member.

On Monday (August 18, 2025), he formally assumed charge from UGC Chairman Professor Dr. S. M. A. Faiz. Earlier, on Sunday (August 17), the Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education appointed him as a member of the commission for a period of four years through a notification. The appointment order has come into effect from the date of his joining.

The notification mentioned that Professor Dr. Ayub Islam will immediately enjoy the last salary and allowances drawn in his previous post and other benefits as per the prevailing rules.

Professor Dr. Ayub Islam has been serving in the academic and research arena for a long time. He was the Chairman of the Department of Accounting and the Bureau of Business Research of Chittagong University. In addition, he has served as the Director of Chittagong Stock Exchange and Advisor to the School of Business of Chittagong Independent University and Coordinator of the MBA Program.

During his academic career, he earned a PhD degree from Chittagong University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship from the University of Aberdeen, UK. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to academics and research, he has received several honors including the Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship, Chancellor’s Award and Talent Pool Scholarship at various levels.

The leaders of the UGC Officers’ Association and Employees’ Union congratulated Professor Dr. Ayub Islam on his appointment as a full-time member.
