Prime Minister Tarique Rahman orders immediate relocation of four bus terminals in the capital

Desk Report:

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered the immediate relocation of four intercity bus terminals outside the city to resolve the long-standing traffic congestion problem in the capital Dhaka. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting on traffic congestion and traffic management modernization in the capital held at the Public Administration Room of the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat on Monday (June 15, 2026) afternoon.

After the meeting, the Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary said that to reduce traffic congestion in the capital, the four main intercity bus terminals in Dhaka will be relocated outside the city in phases.

According to the decision, the Fulbaria-Gulistan bus terminal will be relocated to Keraniganj. The Mohakhali bus terminal will first be temporarily shifted to the eastern region and later permanently shifted to an area near Tongi. In addition, the Gabtoli bus terminal will be relocated to Hemayetpur and the Sayedabad-Jatrabari bus terminal will be relocated to Kanchpur.

The Prime Minister also directed to quickly remove the bus counters scattered in different areas of the capital and shift them to designated places. She said that the implementation of this initiative is essential to develop a planned public transport system and make the city’s road management effective.
