Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in New York to Attend the 81st UN Session

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has arrived in New York, USA, to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). He is accompanied on this visit by his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman.

A Turkish Airlines flight carrying the Prime Minister landed at John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport at 6:20 PM local time on Monday (September 21, 2026). The flight arrived in New York following a stopover in Istanbul.

At the airport, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, were welcomed by the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN, Irene Zubaida Khan, and the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the USA, Tarique Md. Ariful Islam. Later, the Prime Minister was escorted to the Hyatt Grand Central Hotel in New York via a motorcade.

Upon his arrival at the hotel, the Prime Minister was received by the Deputy Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN, AKM Wahiduzzaman, and Consul General Mozammel Haque.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to address the 81st session of the UN General Assembly on September 24. This will be his first address to the UN General Assembly as Prime Minister.

Earlier, at 6:05 AM (Bangladesh time) on Monday, the Prime Minister departed Dhaka for New York on a Turkish Airlines flight from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The flight landed at Istanbul Airport at 10:55 AM local time (Turkey). After a stopover of two hours and thirty-five minutes there, the flight resumed its journey to New York at 2:10 PM local time.

During his visit to New York, the Prime Minister will participate in various high-level UN meetings and side events, as well as hold bilateral meetings with heads of state and government from various countries and representatives of international organizations. He is also scheduled to attend a welcome breakfast hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

Alongside the UN session, the Prime Minister will participate in programs addressing various international issues, including climate change, sea-level rise, the Rohingya crisis, and maternal and neonatal health. As part of economic diplomacy, he also has a schedule of meetings with representatives from the international business and investment sectors.

Various programs have also been organized by the Bangladeshi diaspora and different organizations in New York in connection with the Prime Minister’s visit.
