Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasizes on building a work-oriented and technology-based education system

Desk Report:

In his speech as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the ‘Training of Teachers on Work-Oriented and Technical Education’ program organized by the National University, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized on building a skill-based, technology-based, practical and work-oriented education system instead of certificate-based education.

At the event held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center, he said that in this era of the fourth industrial revolution, there is no alternative but to modernize and update the existing education curriculum to meet the challenges of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation.

He also said that the long rule and exploitation of more than a decade and a half has not only taken away the democratic political rights of the people of the country, but has also weakened the constitutional and statutory institutions. At the same time, the education system has also been greatly damaged. Now is the time to turn around in democratic Bangladesh.

Emphasizing the need to build a knowledge-based state and society, he said that it is essential to acquire skills in education, knowledge, science and technology to honor those who have sacrificed their lives to protect democracy and people’s rights at every stage of the country’s history, starting from the freedom struggle. Otherwise, it will be difficult to survive in global competition.

Urging teachers to play a role as the forerunners of social change, he said that if students and youth can be transformed into technology-based skilled human resources, Bangladesh can set an example before the world as a prosperous and self-reliant nation.

Stating that national development is a collective effort, he sought the united participation of everyone, including universities, teachers, students, guardians, civil society and the industry.

The program was presided over by National University Vice Chancellor Dr. ASM Amanullah. Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Education and Primary and Mass Education Mahdi Amin, Education Secretary Abdul Khaleq and University Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Md. Lutfar Rahman also spoke.
