“The standard of products must be ensured because it is needed for the development of industries and also improving the living standard of the people,” he said while speaking on the occasion of World Standards Day 2024 organized by Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institute (BSTI) at Foreign Service Academy on October 14, 2024.
Administrator of FBCCI Md. Hafizur Rahman attended the meeting as special speaker while Director General (DG) of BSTI SM Ferdous Alam delivered welcome speech.
Pro-Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Prof. Dr. Abdul Hasib Chowdhury presented the key notepaper.
The program was presided over by Ms. Zakia Sultana, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Industries. she said quality of product should be maintained to protect environment and health.

Mr. Adilur Rahman Khan, Honorable Adviser, Ministry of Industries and Ministry of Housing & Public Works graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
He said as the BSTI is responsible for ensuring the quality of products, it will have to expand its operation across the country overcoming all obstacles.
“Making plan is not enough. you must work to reach standard goods to the people,” he added.
He also said the interim government has already formed several reform commissions committees, which are expected to start work from December this year or January next year. The government is also giving more emphasis to strengthen the capacity of BSTI to formulate and implement the Bangladesh Standards of products and services.
“BSTI facilitates this process by harmonizing local standards with global benchmarks, enabling Bangladesh products to meet the requirements of international buyers,” he added.
BSTI DG SM Ferdous Alam said the institution’s relentless pursuit of quality standards in various sector including manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare, and consumer products has enhanced the competitiveness of Bangladesh industries both locally and globally.
