No room for irregularities or disorder in local government elections: State Minister Mir Shahe Alam MP

Desk Report:

The government has initiated work with the aim of completing elections for all Union Parishads across the country between January and June of next year. Simultaneously, the government maintains a firm stance on ensuring that all future local government elections are free, fair, impartial, and credible. Mir Shahe Alam MP, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, stated that the army would be deployed in every election if necessary to safeguard the people’s voting rights.

He made these remarks on Thursday (October 1, 2026) during an exchange meeting with local journalists at the Gaibandha Circuit House auditorium.

The State Minister affirmed the government’s commitment to upholding the people’s right to vote and strengthening the democratic system. He emphasized that regular elections are essential to making local government institutions effective and people-oriented. With this objective, activities are progressing to complete all Union Parishad elections nationwide between January and June of the coming year.

He stressed that elections must be free, fair, impartial, and credible. The government will take all necessary measures to ensure citizens can exercise their voting rights without hindrance. The army will be deployed if required to maintain law and order and ensure voter safety during the elections. No scope will be allowed for any irregularities or disorder in the conduct of the elections.

During the meeting, State Minister Mir Shahe Alam also highlighted the government’s initiatives to address the country’s ongoing power crisis. He mentioned that effective steps are being taken to expand rooftop solar power systems to meet electricity demand and reduce the load on the national grid.

He explained that electricity generated through rooftop solar systems would first be used to meet the specific needs of the respective building or institution. Initiatives are underway to supply surplus electricity to the national grid. This approach will help mitigate the power deficit while simultaneously easing the strain on the conventional power system.

The State Minister added that emphasis is being placed on increasing the use of renewable energy to meet the country’s electricity demands. Rooftop solar systems can play a significant role in this regard. If this initiative is implemented systematically, it will lead to increased electricity generation and positive changes in energy management. Regarding the fertilizer issue, the State Minister stated that artificial fertilizer shortages were staged in areas represented by opposition MPs. He also alleged that there was a conspiracy to tarnish the government’s reputation.

Earlier, upon his arrival in Gaibandha, State Minister Mir Shahe Alam MP was accorded a guard of honor by the district administration at the Circuit House. Later, he participated in an exchange meeting with local journalists at the Circuit House auditorium.

Following the interaction with journalists, the State Minister attended a crucial meeting on law and order organized by the district administration. Discussions at the meeting covered the district’s overall law and order situation, public safety, and various related matters.
