Seven newly appointed members of the Public Service Commission (PSC) have taken oath.
Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed administered the oath to the new members of the PSC today (March 2, 2025) at the Judges Lounge of the Supreme Court. The seven members who took the oath are Professor Ferdous Arfina Osman of Dhaka University, retired officer of the Foreign Affairs Cadre Shabbir Ahmed Chowdhury, retired Additional Inspector General of Police Md. Munir Hossain, Professor Shahnaz Sarkar of Bangladesh Agricultural University, BCS Health Cadre officer Professor ATM Farid Uddin, Professor Md. Sharif Hossain of Dhaka University and Brigadier General (Retd.) Md. Anwarul Islam.
Judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, family members of the newly appointed PSC members and officials of the Supreme Court Registry were present at the oath-taking ceremony. Today’s oath-taking ceremony was conducted by the Registrar General of the Supreme Court, Dr. Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan.
The seven members of the PSC who were sworn in today were appointed by a notification issued on February 19. The notification said that the President has appointed them in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Article 138 (1) of the Constitution. According to Article 139 (1) of the Constitution, members shall hold office as members of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission for a period of 5 years from the date of assuming office or until they attain the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
