Nepalese Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari paid a courtesy call on Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin.
The meeting was held in the Trade Advisor’s office room at the Secretariat today, Sunday (February 23, 2025). The meeting discussed in detail the increase in trade, power supply, connectivity and the Nepal Economic Summit between the two countries.
Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin said that connectivity needs to be increased for the economic development of the two countries. Bangladesh is interested in working with a long-term plan to ensure strategic partnership. He mentioned that both countries will benefit from increasing trade volume between the two countries at this time.
The Nepalese Ambassador described the relationship with Bangladesh as historical and excellent, saying that Nepal imports agricultural products from Bangladesh. Bangladesh signed a trilateral agreement with India and Nepal on October 3 for importing electricity from Nepal. Under the agreement, Bangladesh will receive 40 MW of electricity from Nepal via India for five months from June to November 2025. At the same time, Ghanshyam Bhandari expressed hope that the volume of electricity exports will increase in the future.
In the meeting, Ghanshyam Bhandari handed over an invitation to Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin to participate in the Nepal Economic Summit to be held in Nepal. Commerce Secretary (Routine Responsibilities) Md. Abdur Rahim Khan and Additional Secretary (FTA) Ayesha Akhter were present at the time.
